From 15th to 17th August a three-day training was delivered online to mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) workers and volunteers located in the Middle-east region. The trainings were delivered Ali Zouby, Abd Hammoud, and Dr. Masa Al-kurdi. A total of 37 persons were trained on the TRT manual. They training were based in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. Participants plan to use the TRT program within their existing organisation, working in their local areas in schools, or in their community centres. An overview how to implement the TRT was provided to participants. It was advised that children requiring further specialist mental health treatment during / after the implementation should be referred to mental health specialists available in the local area, where mental health treatment can be provided to children in need of specialist care. Trainers shared experiences from the field and participants had many opportunities to ask questions and discuss the TRT program. Participants were given the opportunity to practise the techniques and trainers demonstrated techniques in front of participants. The final training day was spent on training the team on the pre and post survey assessment tools, data analyses and the implementation plan. Trainees were assigned a technique each to practice in front of fellow trainees and trainers, feedback and advice were given to each trainee. Overall, the training evaluation was very positive.
Supervision of participants will be offered via a Whatsapp group, and a zoom call will be held after the first round of TRT has been completed for anyone wishing to receive further support.
Also in August, a workshops and refresher training was carried out in Syria with 59 persons who had previously been training in TRT. The workshop was a valuable opportunity to share experiences, provide feedback on the manual and strengthen network among TRT users.
