Teaching Recovery Techniques (TRT) Online Training - March 2026

From 27th February to 1st March 2026, a three-day online training in Teaching Recovery Techniques (TRT) was delivered to mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) practitioners from diverse professional backgrounds.

The training was conducted by Helene Christie and Alba Banoun and served as the first pilot of the revised 2026 TRT manual, providing an opportunity to test updated content and gather feedback from participants.

Participants, including psychologists, counsellors, educators, and humanitarian workers, were introduced to the core components of TRT, combining theoretical input with practical exercises and group discussions. Key topics included understanding children’s reactions to trauma and applying techniques to address intrusive memories, arousal, and avoidance.

The training emphasised safe group facilitation, normalising reactions, and adapting the intervention to different age groups and contexts. Participants had opportunities to practice techniques and reflect on how to implement TRT within their own settings.

A total of 11 participants completed the post-training evaluation, which showed a high level of satisfaction. Participants highlighted the practical nature of the tools, the clarity of the structure, and the value of peer exchange.

Participants expressed strong motivation to apply TRT in their work with children affected by trauma in schools, community programmes, and humanitarian settings.
