Two previous workshop attendants, Indranee Liew and Dr Lai Fong Hwa, have informed us that they have trained at least 89 trainers in 2008 and 2009 in the Penang peninsula in Malaysia.
Dr. Lai Fong Hwa and members of the Penang Child Trauma Psychosocial Response team conducted one training in 2008 with 44 participants, and two further trainings in 2009 in Penang. The second of the two, were for 25 participants with the aim of establishing a child trauma response team for the central region.
In addition, the team held an Emergency Psychiatry Conference in Cameron Highlands in April and a Johor Mental Health Convention. Both conducted workshops focused on skills/techniques to deal with arousal, avoidance, intrusion and reframing negative thoughts.
For 2010 the Penang Child Trauma Psychosocial Response team plan to carry out a training in February in Kelantan to establish a child trauma response team on the east coast. More response teams are also in planning.
