There are only two child psychiatrists in Iraq, leaving the health care system unprepared for treating the many children who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from the war.
Our contact in Baghdad estimates that the total number of qualified psychiatrists in Iraq to around 52, serving a population of 26 millions.
This rate is very low by international standards, the total number of psychiatric beds all over the country is only 1500 beds.
